2024 Bainbridge Book Festival Launch Party

The Bainbridge Book Festival is honored to welcome Nicola Yoon, the #1 New York Times best-selling author of One of Our Kind, as the keynote speaker for the inaugural festival!

The Launch Party starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the beautiful Stan Pocock Legacy Rowing Center overlooking Eagle Harbor. Enjoy a beautiful evening with locally catered appetizers, beverages, and a thought-provoking conversation with our keynote speaker. Yoon’s previous work includes Instructions for Dancing, Everything, Everything, and The Sun Is Also a Star. Her books have garnered critical acclaim, including a National Book Award nomination and the Michael L. Printz Award. Known for her deeply emotional storytelling and vibrant characters, Yoon is the first Black woman to hit #1 on the New York Times Young Adult bestseller list. Two of her novels have been adapted into major motion pictures.

Nicola Yoon will be in conversation with Chasity Malatesta, an African-American educator, facilitator, and equity advocate based on Bainbridge Island. With over two decades of experience, she has honed her skills in leadership, teamwork, and multicultural advising. Chasity is dedicated to addressing and dismantling inequities within the education system and broader community. Currently, Chasity co-chairs the Multicultural Advisory Council for the Bainbridge Island School District and is a member of the Executive Board and inaugural DEI Committee at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. She is passionate about empowering individuals to challenge oppression, mitigate harm, and advance social justice in their communities.
